Adoption at Avalon

Upon arrival at Avalon, all bunnies receive veterinary evaluation and care, including flea and mite treatment as needed.  Bunnies are vaccinated for RHDV2 and most are spayed/neutered before being adopted.  For those that are not fixed prior to adoption (this can happen when a baby is adopted before being old enough for surgery), we work with adoptive families to make that happen ASAP, using our vet or theirs.  Until the bunnies are fixed, we consider them as a “foster to adopt” status. Spaying and neutering bunnies is incredibly important for their overall health and general wellbeing.

Adoption fees:

        $130 for a single bunny

        $230 for a bonded pair

Rabbits labeled as “on hold” are currently in a foster to adopt home.

Adoption Process

Adoption at Avalon is a process.  Many rabbit adoptions from pet stores or off Craigslist are impulse decisions and owners become overwhelmed once they have the bunny because they didn’t do the appropriate research.  This can lead to bunnies getting dumped.  This is exactly why rescues have requirements. Not to be difficult. Not to gatekeep. Not because we enjoy paperwork. It’s because rabbits are one of the most misunderstood, mistreated, and impulse purchased pets in the country.

Here is what to expect when adopting from Avalon:

  • Fill out the adoption application on the website
  • An adoption specialist will contact you for a phone chat
  • A home visit will be set up…..we are not looking if you have a perfect home….just that it’s a bunny appropriate space
  • Schedule a visit to meet the Avalon adoptable bunnies and take one home.  If you are looking to bond your current rabbit, this will be the time to speed date.  Be ready with supplies already at your home for you new bun before you come to the rescue.  You can visit our learn tab for a list of the basic setup.
  • Update Avalon with how it’s going with your new bunny.  We love photos, questions, and gushing texts about your bunny.  There are no stupid questions….you are not bothering us.  We are here for support!!
